Week 2 Lessons

I like how action research inquires were grouped into nine passion areas because it gave me specific areas to focus on when looking to write an inquiry. After reading all nine areas, I concluded that each school so have at least one team or person working on an inquiry questions in each one of these nine areas. No one area is better than the other and all of these sections require attention for a school to improve. You may even have more than inquiry in a section from various people or teams but it is important to cover all areas for the best results.

Educational Leaders and Blogs

Blogs have become a part of our everyday lives as well as our students. Educational leaders can us this a forum to take suggestions for a new project or to update staff with announcements. This lets leaders directly connect with their staff and colleagues for school messages only and allows live feedback on school issues or projects.

Why use Action Research?

For years many of us in the education field have read books on best practices and listened to countless trainings on how to improve our shortcomings. Although we have learned many great solutions and idea from these platforms, many of us have wondered "what about my school" or " how will this work at my school." Action Research allows us to form teams at our school to identify a school problem. We get to be specific at our school level and can use our faculty as resources in creating a plan for improvement. In creating a team, we can continually meet to review our progress and are able to see problems in our plan as they occur. Having a local team tackle these problems allows us to put these best practices and trainings to use but also allows us to tailor them to the school.
I will use action research for a variety of problems at my school. As a math teacher, we are currently receiving our curriculum assessment scores and are noticing the large gap between our high and low students. As a math team, we will form the task committee and look at identifying the problems, creating a solution, and carrying out our plan. We will meet during our PLC time each Thursday to monitor our progress and change areas we think are not working. I know our best resources are our teachers and with combining our best practices and ideas we will create the best action plan for our students.
